Question from Michelle Ronan Noteboom, HL7 Standards contributor and Health IT strategist:
How can healthcare technology developers better incorporate patient needs into product planning and development?
It’s simple: listen to the patients. Physicians have long been at the center of healthcare; today we’re seeing a shift to a more patient-centered model that emphasizes engaging patients in their own care and recognizes the importance of patient satisfaction.
HIT developers have long relied on the input of clinicians but now it’s time to bring patients to the table. Providers are re-designing workflows and incorporating technologies that enhance the patient experience. Developers must make a similar shift and recognize that in order for technology to improve care and satisfaction, patient input is essential.
