For the first episode of my video interview series CIO Report, I had the opportunity to speak with Chris Bowen, founder and chief privacy and security officer of ClearDATA. We spoke about a variety of topics centered around health data security. Two topics that are top of mind for me are health data storage in the cloud and the rise of ransomware attacks in healthcare. This was a great discussion for me personally since I just received a report on my IT security audit. Chris hit a lot of key points but the most important one for CXOs to follow is that security is an enterprise risk and we have to practice our security procedures as part of our organizational risk process.
I offered some advice to hospitals on how to protect against a ransomware attack on the blog, but, as Chris points out in the interview, more than 90% of spam emails may contain ransomware, which makes it almost impossible to completely prevent from your enterprise.
